Open water swim course

Open water safety course to help you understand the dangers. The course involves theory session and a practical session at Viking bay Broadstairs.

The short course is a 6 hour course run by Kent surf schools – Andy Webb – WSA SUP & SURF COACH – RLSS NBVLQ – RNLI 5 years experience

Theory Training 

  • Essential First aid – CPR – AED Use – Unconscious casualty – Shock – Hypothermia – 
  • Learning about the beach environment , tides , waves , winds , currents
  • Planning an open water swimming trip
  • Essential Equipment
  • Wetsuit / Types
  • Safety & Lifesaving Rescue techniques

Practical Training

  • How to safely enter the cold water
  • What to do if you get into difficulty
  • What to do if you see someone in difficulty How to self rescue and rescue others safely How to alert the emergency services
  • How to escape a rip
  • How to treat hypothermia
  • Scenarios

The Theory & practical aspects of the course will take place, the following Crampton Museum in Broadstairs then head to Kent surf school location on Viking bay beach Broadstairs

As far as training venues go, they don’t get much better, Viking bay beach sheltered by the elements most winds making them good training venue.

Our training team are highly qualified , from RLSS beach lifeguards to RNLI lifeboat crew members all professionals and highly experienced water users, we have all angles covered to give you the best education

The Total price for the course £ 50 pp

For the practical training will have to be at a reasonable level of fitness and be able to satisfy our covid protocols a wetsuit is highly recommended. ( if you need a wetsuit we will be able to provide you one for a hire price £10.00  just make sure you let us know on the booking & waiver form )
